Deep sea fishing gulfshores— go go deep sea fishing gulfshores?
When Costa Rica saltwater sportfishing is barely two hours and a less than 200 dollars airfare away from Florida and Texas? We got the Monster Marlin, Savage Sailfish, Ten-Ton Yellow-fin Tuna (ok, we exaggerated a bit on the weight), and Rock n Roll Roosterfish — even fat, succulent snook that the hotel will cook up for you! The best places to fish offshore here are Guanacaste and Quepos. Guanacaste is great from May through September, though October can be rainy. The Quepos and Manuel Antonio area turns is the Season of the Sailfish from January through March.
In either area, we highly recommend a full day aboard one of our charter, a legendary sportfisher that carries all the equipment necessary for any type of fish, If you want to see what kind of species you will find down here, take a look at some of the saltwater fish pictures and photos that were taken.
How Far is Is to Costa Rica?
From Florida, Texas or Louisiana, you can fly down to this country, which is located between Panama and Nicaragua, in under two hours. The best airfares that we have seen lately are on Martin Air. In the fall of 2020, you could get a round trip air fare ticket from Miami to San Jose, the inland capital, for $199. Tickets from Orlando were going for only $239.
Some air lines also fly into Liberia, which is in the north west part of the country and only a 20 minute taxi ride to Playas del Coco and Playa Ocotal, Guanacaste. These remain some of the few genuine “sleepy sportfishing villages” left in the Western Hemisphere, so we suggest you visit them soon.
You can also find very good prices on hotels, resorts and villas. Especially during low season, May through mid-December. During these months, some of the beach places cut their rates in half. Dining and nightlife is also reasonable, much more so than in places like Cancun.
