From the moment you sight your first huge marlin or sailfish leaping from the ocean blue, falling back into the briney sea, and jumping back out practically right in your face at times, you will be a changed man. Nothing you have ever done can begin to compare to the challenge and thrill of fighting a monster blue marlin or a huge, ornery sailfish.
Ports such as Quepos / Los Suenos, Manuel Antonio, and Playas del Coco, Guanacaste, feature other things to do on the beach, in the nearby rainforests, and on its wild, racing rivers. They also feature some of this country’s finest beaches, resorts, hotels, and villas, some of which offer all-inclusive food and beverages, and other activities.
What to Expect on an Offshore Charter
Your day begins around 7:30 AM. You may board the boat from a panga with an outboard engine (most ports in, Jaco Beach, Los Suenos, Guanacaste) or a pier (Quepos and Flamingo).
Deep-sea usually means traveling offshore to reach big schools. This won’t take long and gives you a little time to chat with the crew. Once the outriggers have been lowered and the flat lines are trailing in the wake of the boat, all you have to do is kick back, pop the top of a can of beer, and wait for someone to yell “Strike!” The crew and your buddies will also start yelling advice on how to handle the Big Billfish at the end of the line, and you can count on plenty of blazing action until that magic moment when the fish is brought alongside the boat for pictures before being released into the deep blue sea.
